The State Bureau of Investigation has identified the cause of the Su-24M crash in the Khmelnytskyi region

The State Bureau of Investigations has completed the analysis of the flight data recorder from the Su-24M military aircraft that crashed on June 16 in the Khmelnytskyi region. Two pilots were killed in the crash.

According to the flight recorder, components of the control system on the left wing failed during the flight. After that, the aircraft lost control and began spinning around its axis. The Su-24M was falling from an altitude of over 600 meters, and its speed reached 809 km/h.

A preliminary internal investigation by the Air Force determined that the damage to the aircraft could have been caused by an external factor—a bird strike. However, this theory still requires expert confirmation.

The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has already received the results of the internal investigation and has ordered an additional aviation-technical examination. Experts must determine whether the damage found could have caused a critical loss of control, whether the crew had the opportunity to regain control of the aircraft, and examine other possible causes of the crash.

Final conclusions regarding the causes of the Su-24M crash will be made after all expert evaluations are completed.

The criminal case is being investigated under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—violation of flight rules or flight preparation rules, resulting in a crash or other serious consequences.
