The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has launched an anti-corruption campaign titled “Bribes Have Consequences”
On September 9, the State Bureau of Investigations launched a large-scale awareness campaign titled “Bribery Has Consequences.” The project is being implemented with the support of the EU Advisory Mission in Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine).
“The main goal of the campaign is to dispel the misconception that bribery is a simple, convenient, or safe way to resolve issues and to shift the focus from perceived personal gain to the true cost of a corrupt decision,” according to a statement from the SBI’s press service.
As the Bureau emphasized, the campaign aims to demonstrate that a bribe is never a private matter between two people and never disappears without a trace. Every illegal act leaves a trail that will inevitably lead to both parties involved—both the person receiving the unlawful benefit and the person offering, promising, or providing it. In cases provided for by law, such actions entail criminal liability under Articles 368 and 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
“Ensuring the inevitability of punishment is a priority area of the State Bureau of Investigation’s systematic work. The Bureau combats bribery, illicit enrichment, the embezzlement of state property, abuse of official position, and other corruption-related crimes among officials, law enforcement officers, judges, and military personnel within the jurisdiction defined by law. This work takes on particular importance in wartime, when corruption means not only the loss of state funds but also a threat to the country’s security and defense capability. “State resources must be used for the defense of the country and its citizens, rather than becoming a source of personal enrichment or being used contrary to the public interest,” the State Bureau of Investigation emphasized.
The Bureau urges citizens not to become part of corruption schemes.
“Do not give or take bribes, and if you are aware of any instances of corruption, report them to the Bureau,” law enforcement officials urge.
The DBR has not detained the SBU special forces officers involved in the shooting at GUR soldiers.
