In the Mukachevo District of Zakarpattia Oblast, a 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a fellow villager. According to law enforcement officials, during a dinner party, he doused the guest with a flammable substance out of jealousy and set him on fire. The victim suffered burns over approximately 80% of his body.
As reported, the incident occurred on September 21 in the village of Chereivtsi. A 51-year-old man had come to visit his 45-year-old fellow villager. During the gathering, a conflict arose between them due to jealousy.
According to investigators, the host doused the guest with a flammable substance and set it alight with a lighter. Afterward, the victim managed to make his way home on his own.
“The next day, his relatives found him in serious condition and called for medical help. As a result of the arson, the man sustained first- and second-degree burns,” police said.
The victim was hospitalized. According to law enforcement, burns cover approximately 80% of his body.
The suspect was located and placed in a temporary detention facility. Police noted that he is a military servicemember and had previously been charged with desertion.
The man’s actions were classified as attempted murder under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. If found guilty, he faces 7 to 15 years in prison.
