On June 17 in Vinnytsia, the second Swiss Tram2000 tram, which was modernized to meet accessibility requirements, began operating on a trial basis. The car was equipped with a low-floor section for the convenience of passengers with limited mobility, according to the local city council.

“The second Tram2000 with a low-floor section has hit the tracks in Vinnytsia—the result of months of work by specialists who gave the Swiss tram a new, accessible ‘heart.’ The tram is currently undergoing test runs on Route No. 5, ‘Elektromerezha–Barske Shosse,’ and after testing in real-world urban conditions, it is scheduled to be put into regular service on Route No. 4,” the statement reads.

According to the statement, the low-floor section ensures barrier-free access for those who have difficulty boarding high-floor vehicles. Specifically, this includes people in wheelchairs, parents with strollers, elderly passengers, and community members with limited mobility.

Workers at the “Vinnytsia Transport Company” depot spent months working on this car. The 7.5-meter-long central low-floor section, which was inserted between the front and rear sections of the tram—which had been separated for this purpose—was manufactured by a contractor. As a result, the car has become longer, more comfortable, and better suited to passengers’ needs.

It is noted that this is already the second Tram2000 low-floor tram to be retrofitted to meet accessibility requirements in Vinnytsia. By the end of 2026, the city plans to manufacture three more cars with low-floor sections.
