India Is Ready to Help Ukraine End the War — Foreign Ministry

India is ready to join efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine if its assistance is needed.

Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar made this statement on September 3 during a joint press briefing with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga in Kyiv.

According to Jaishankar, New Delhi is aware of the scale of human casualties and destruction caused by the war. He also emphasized that it is up to Ukraine and Russia to find ways to end the hostilities.

The Indian foreign minister recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently called on Vladimir Putin to move away from an “endless war” and work toward bringing it to an end.

During talks in Kyiv, Jaishankar and Sibiga also discussed attacks on merchant ships flying various flags. The Indian minister noted that this creates problems for countries in the Global South, particularly due to risks to the supply of fuel, fertilizers, and food.

Japan and India held their first joint government event on the processing of critical minerals at the Japanese Embassy in New Delhi. About 130 people attended Friday’s meeting, including government officials and representatives from waste processing companies.

India has sharply increased its purchases of Russian oil. In June and July, the country imported more than 2.6 million barrels per day—a record high that accounted for more than half of India’s total oil imports.
