Yulia Svyrydenko is set to be appointed chair of Naftogaz

Former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko may be appointed chair of Naftogaz of Ukraine. This was announced by Member of Parliament Oleksiy Goncharenko. According to him, the decision has already been made, and the necessary votes on the company’s supervisory board have been secured.

People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko announced Yulia Svyrydenko’s upcoming appointment. He claims that the matter has already been settled and that the vote on the supervisory board is virtually guaranteed. “The decision to appoint Yulia Svyrydenko as chair of NAK ‘Naftogaz’ has been made. Everyone has been notified. The votes on the supervisory board have been secured,” Goncharenko wrote.

Thus, according to his information, Svyrydenko is set to head Ukraine’s largest state-owned gas company. At the same time, the MP’s statement is currently the sole source of this information. The final appointment must be officially confirmed by the relevant decisions of Naftogaz’s governing bodies.

Who Is Yulia Svyrydenko

Yulia Svyrydenko is a Ukrainian public figure who previously held top positions in the government. She served as Ukraine’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy. In this role, Svyrydenko was responsible, in particular, for the country’s economic policy, attracting investment, supporting business, and international economic cooperation.

Later, Svyrydenko headed the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. After her time in government, her career has once again come into the spotlight due to her potential appointment as head of Naftogaz. If the appointment is confirmed, Svyrydenko will lead a company that is crucial to Ukraine’s energy security.

Why Naftogaz Is Important

Naftogaz of Ukraine is one of the country’s largest state-owned companies. The group operates in the fields of natural gas production, transportation, storage, and supply. During the full-scale war, Naftogaz’s role has become even more critical. The company is involved in preparing the country for the heating seasons, supplying gas to the population, and maintaining the stability of the energy system.

The issue of energy security is particularly acute on the eve of the fall-winter period. Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure pose additional risks to the operation of the gas system. Therefore, the change in Naftogaz’s leadership is more than just personnel news. A significant portion of the country’s energy stability depends on the company’s operations.

What is known about the appointment

According to Oleksiy Honcharenko, the necessary votes in the supervisory board have already been secured. The MP also states that board members have been informed of the decision. However, the information provided does not include details about the date of Svyrydenko’s official appointment, the terms of her employment, or the specific tasks that the new head will face.

Therefore, for now, it is accurate to speak specifically of the announced decision and the expected appointment. Further details are expected to be revealed after the personnel decision is officially finalized. If Svyrydenko does indeed take the helm at Naftogaz, she will face serious challenges—ranging from ensuring the company’s stable operations and preparing for the heating season to securing Ukraine’s energy resilience amid the war.
