Jonathan Karlinsky, 49, who was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine after returning from Rosh Hashanah, was assigned to serve as a military doctor in Odesa.

For several weeks, he had feared that he might be sent to the combat zone near Kharkiv. Abraham Wolf, the Chief Rabbi of Southern Ukraine, helped secure his assignment to Odesa.

At his post, Karlinsky will have access to a synagogue and kosher meals. The medical facility is located near the local Jewish community.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine noted that the man holds dual citizenship—Israeli and Ukrainian.

In Russia, a false story began circulating claiming that 49-year-old Israeli Yonatan Karlinski-Mashak, who also holds Ukrainian citizenship, was detained at the Ukrainian-Romanian border after a trip to Uman. After his documents were checked, the man was allegedly taken to a military facility near Odesa, where he is undergoing the process of enlisting in the Ukrainian military.
