Maersk is temporarily suspending operations at the terminal in Chornomorsk due to shelling

Maersk, one of the world’s largest container shipping operators, is temporarily suspending services through the Black Sea fishing port. The decision was made due to the deteriorating security situation and increasing risks to shipping in the Black Sea.

Container ships and import shipments bound for Chornomorsk (including the vessel Medkon Mira V.629S and cargo from Port Said, Egypt) will be rerouted to the port of Constanța in Romania. For export shipments, the company is offering the option to change the port of loading to Constanta or to cancel the booking.

The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine emphasized that this does not involve the closure of the port of Chornomorsk itself, but only a temporary suspension of Maersk’s operations at a separate private terminal. The seaport and the Ukrainian Maritime Corridor continue to operate as usual.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned Vladimir Ladanov, the Russian chargé d’affaires, expressing “unequivocal condemnation” of the Russian strike on the civilian dry cargo ship MV Golden Leo near the port of Odesa. Ten people were killed in the attack, including four Indian sailors and a Ukrainian pilot. 

The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine emphasized that such attacks pose a danger to international shipping, undermine the stability of global trade, and threaten global food security.

Earlier, on July 13, Russian forces struck Odesa. The attack reportedly hit a transportation infrastructure facility in the city.
