In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a man who had been classified as a deserter since September 2024 opened fire on police officers during an authorized search. As a result of the shooting, two members of the KORD special forces unit were wounded.
According to law enforcement officials, the search was conducted as part of a criminal investigation into allegations of large-scale fraud and the illegal smuggling of individuals across the state border. Police investigators, operatives from the Department of Strategic Investigations, and KORD special forces were involved in the operation.
During the search, the suspect opened fire at law enforcement officers with a firearm. Two KORD officers were wounded.
Afterward, while still inside the house, the man committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
The wounded police officers were hospitalized. According to the National Police, their lives are not in danger.
Investigators, forensic experts, and other relevant agencies are currently working at the scene. Law enforcement officers have seized the weapon and are determining all the circumstances of the incident.
