The remains of 42 people were discovered during exhumations in Volyn
Ukrainian-Polish exhumation efforts are underway in the area of the former village of Volya Ostrovetska in the Volyn Oblast.
As of July 24, experts have uncovered the remains of 42 people who died during World War II.
According to Sviatoslav Sheremeta, head of the “Dolia” Memorial and Search Center, 27 of the discovered remains have already been exhumed. Work at the site continues.
In addition, expedition members are surveying the territories of the former villages of Volia Ostrovetska and Ostrivky in search of other burial sites. As of the morning of July 24, no new burial sites had been discovered.

Starting July 13, a new phase of exhumation work will begin in the territories of the former villages of Ostrivky and Volia Ostrovetska in the Volyn region. The investigation will be conducted to locate, identify, and subsequently reburial the remains of local residents who died during the tragic events of August 1943.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced private consultations with Ukraine regarding the possible naming of one of the Special Operations Forces (SSO) units “Heroes of the UPA.” According to him, this issue is being discussed through diplomatic channels.
