In the Lviv region, a 68-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, who was under the influence of alcohol, fatally struck a Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemember. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The accident occurred on August 4 at around 1:00 p.m. in the village of Sukhovolia, Zolochiv District. According to the investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle on a curved section of the road, veered onto the shoulder, and struck a 38-year-old man. The man died at the scene from his injuries.
Law enforcement officials determined that the deceased was an active-duty member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who was on medical leave. His 17-year-old son witnessed the tragedy and called the police.
Tests showed that the driver’s blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit. The man was detained, and a notice of suspicion is being prepared against him. Investigators are determining all the circumstances of the accident.
As a reminder, in Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblast, a police officer struck a woman and her 6-year-old daughter at a crosswalk. The child died from her injuries, and the mother was hospitalized.
The prosecutor’s office is preparing to challenge the pretrial measure imposed on the police officer who, while driving a police vehicle, fatally struck a 6-year-old girl in Pryluky on December 10.
