Following inspections, nearly 30,000 male students were expelled from universities
In Ukraine, nearly 30,000 male students were expelled from higher education institutions following inspections. Full-time enrollment entitles men over the age of 25 to a deferment from mobilization, which served as the basis for the intensified inspections.
Nearly 30,000 male students over the age of 25 were expelled from higher education institutions following inspections conducted by the State Service for Education Quality. This was reported by the head of the service, Ruslan Gurak.
During the monitoring, experts identified violations related to student enrollment, the organization of the educational process, and actual class attendance. Particular attention was paid to students over the age of 25 who are eligible for a deferment from mobilization due to their studies.
According to Ruslan Gurak, after the start of the full-scale war, the number of such students in the education system rose sharply. Over the first three years of the war, their numbers increased nearly tenfold.
“Prior to the full-scale invasion, there were, on average, plus or minus 30,000 male students over the age of 25 enrolled in the education system at all levels. As of May 1 of this year, there are 230,000 such students in the system,” the official noted.
The State Service for Education Quality emphasizes that it checks not only the legality of admission but also whether students are actually attending classes. The final results of this year’s inspections will be released after the summer exam session concludes, as systematic absences or unsatisfactory academic performance can serve as grounds for expulsion.
At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Science states that the problem of using education solely to obtain a deferment is no longer as widespread as it once was. In cases where suspicious trends are detected, law enforcement agencies and specialized services are involved in the inspections.
Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi noted that following the start of the full-scale invasion, the government recorded a sharp increase in the number of male students aged 25 and older, particularly in universities, colleges, and graduate programs. According to him, the situation has stabilized following the implementation of a series of changes.
Oksen Lisovyi also emphasized that using education solely as a means to obtain a deferment from mobilization without the intention of acquiring knowledge is a manifestation of dishonesty and negatively impacts the state’s defense capabilities, writes “Osvitoria.”
As a reminder, the number of Ukrainian men of draft age is growing in Germany.
