Upon their return to Ukraine, Yevhen Konovalets' remains will undergo a series of examinations
The remains of Colonel Yevhen Konovalets were exhumed in Rotterdam for subsequent reburial in Ukraine. After being transported, the remains of the OUN founder will undergo a series of modern scientific and anthropological examinations, including CT and MRI scans, to document historical data for future generations.
Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, noted that this is the first time such a systematic approach to preserving Ukraine’s heritage has been applied, and that similar efforts will be planned in the future for other prominent figures.
Once the scientific examinations are complete, religious services will be held by the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, followed by an official state reburial ceremony attended by the President of Ukraine, the government, parliament, and military officials. The exact date of the ceremony has not yet been disclosed for security reasons. At the same time, the burial site at the “Crossway” Cemetery in Rotterdam will remain with Ukraine, where a commemorative plaque will be installed.

Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers ordered the return of the remains of OUN founder Yevhen Konovalets to Ukraine.
As a reminder, a historic reburial took place at the National Military Memorial Cemetery for Colonel Andriy Melnyk of the Army of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, head of the OUN, and his wife, Sofia Fedak-Melnyk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy submitted Bill No. 15360, “On the Ukrainian National Pantheon,” to the Verkhovna Rada. The head of state officially announced this initiative on June 28 at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra during his traditional address on the occasion of Ukraine’s Constitution Day.
