National Guard officials were caught embezzling more than 150 million hryvnias

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have exposed officials from the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine who, together with businesspeople and appraisers, embezzled more than 150 million hryvnias during the procurement of real estate and property for the military.

To carry out the scheme in 2024, the accomplices purchased a warehouse through a front company and resold it to the National Guard at an artificially inflated price, causing losses of over 143 million hryvnias

The suspects embezzled another 7 million hryvnias through the procurement of solar power stations and tires for armored personnel carriers. The proceeds were funneled through shell companies and used to purchase luxury vehicles—including Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Land Cruiser, and Audi Q8 models—as well as apartments in Bukovel worth over $300,000, a two-level apartment in Kyiv, and land plots.

The officials’ assets, as well as $340,000 and 99,700 euros seized from business owners, have been frozen. The suspected officials have been suspended from their posts, and the final amounts of losses to the state have been confirmed by expert reports and the State Audit Service.

This was reported by the NABU press service.

Law enforcement officials filed an indictment with the court against the company’s director—a member of the Bohodukhiv City Council—who embezzled wastewater treatment equipment worth over 14.79 million hryvnias.

A scheme to embezzle nearly 3 million hryvnias during the renovation of four parks was uncovered in Kyiv
