Food Prices in Ukraine May Rise by Up to 2.5%: What Will Affect Prices
Ukraine has sufficient food reserves for the domestic market, but Russian attacks on food infrastructure are forcing a restructuring of logistics. This could lead to a moderate increase in food prices.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy notes that due to changes in supply routes and additional transportation and storage costs, food prices may rise by a maximum of 2.5%. At the same time, no food shortages are expected.
According to him, the change in the supply model may lead to a certain increase in food prices, but it should not be critical for consumers.
“One of the key elements of the new food supply model is shipping in small batches. The second is direct delivery from the producer to the point of sale,” Vysotsky emphasized.
The minister noted that the restructuring of logistics also affects how retail chains operate. In particular, stores may carry a smaller selection of certain products at any given time, but this does not mean there will be a shortage.
“The transition to a more decentralized supply model requires additional transportation costs, which may affect the price of goods. The cost of warehousing services may also change. At the same time, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy’s assessment, this should not lead to a significant increase in food prices—at most 2.5%,” the head of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy noted.
Vysotsky also assured that Ukraine currently has the necessary storage capacity for vegetables. The main vegetables, primarily those used in borscht, will be grown in sufficient quantities and will be available to Ukrainians for consumption.
