Russian attacks have damaged more than 300 educational institutions in Kyiv
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian attacks have regularly caused damage to Kyiv’s educational infrastructure. More than 300 educational institutions in the capital—including schools, kindergartens, vocational schools, extracurricular education centers, and higher education institutions—have been damaged by missile strikes, drone attacks, and blast waves.

The extent of the damage ranges from windows and doors blown out by blast waves to severe structural damage to facades, roofs, and interior spaces, which require long-term restoration work.
In particular, Lyceum No. 101 in the Lukyanivka district has been damaged at least eight times. Despite constant attacks, the school’s staff has managed each time to repair the damage caused by shelling and restore the premises so that classes can continue.
Despite regular threats, Kyiv continues to bring children back to in-person learning:
51% of the capital’s students are currently attending school in person.
The number of schools operating exclusively online has dropped from 11 to 5.
Safety remains the key factor for holding in-person classes: the availability and capacity of equipped shelters with ventilation, independent lighting, water, and communication systems. In many schools, shelters are being modernized so that full-fledged classes can be held there during prolonged air raid alerts.
Despite significant damage, the capital’s educational network remains operational, and city services and teaching staff continue the phased restoration of damaged school buildings.
