Vasyl Stus's son commented on the idea of a 2,000-hryvnia banknote featuring the poet's portrait
Dmytro Stus met with Andriy Pyshny, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, to discuss the possible issuance of a new 2,000-hryvnia banknote featuring the image of Vasyl Stus, a poet of the 1960s. The parties held an open dialogue regarding this initiative and its significance for preserving Ukraine’s cultural memory.
Ukrainians were informed that on July 21, 2026, a meeting took place between:
- Dmytro Stus, Chairman of the Board of the “StusCenter” Public Association;
- Andriy Pyshnyy, Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The meeting was initiated by the parties to facilitate an open dialogue regarding the new 2,000-hryvnia banknote dedicated to the poet Vasyl Stus.
Representatives of the NBU and Serhiy Kolisnyk, a representative of the Lobby Club who organized the event, also participated in the meeting.
The “StusCenter” Public Association reported that the participants discussed:
- the concept of the new banknote;
- its symbolism;
- its significance for promoting the legacy of Vasyl Stus.
During the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to honor the memory of the poet, who has become one of Ukraine’s moral authorities.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on potential areas of cooperation between the NBU, the “StusCenter” Public Association, and the Lobby Club within the framework of projects aimed at promoting Vasyl Stus’s creative legacy in Ukraine and abroad.
It is noted that Dmytro Stus, the son of the prominent “Sixties” poet, supported the National Bank’s decision to dedicate a new banknote to Vasyl Stus.
According to him, for many Ukrainians, the poet has become a symbol of human and national dignity, which must be defended under any circumstances.
The “StusCenter” Public Association also thanked the Lobby Club team for their support, and the NBU for its openness, transparency, mutual respect, and willingness to cooperate.
“We are convinced that partnership and dialogue are the best foundation for implementing important social and cultural projects in Ukraine,” the public association emphasized.
As a reminder, in the fall of 2026, Ukraine will put into circulation a new 2,000-hryvnia banknote featuring a portrait of Ukrainian poet, human rights activist, and dissident Vasyl Stus. His name has become a symbol of the struggle for freedom, human rights, and Ukraine’s independence.
The National Bank of Ukraine will change the typography of the new 2,000-hryvnia banknote.
