The court will hear the case regarding the death of a conscript during transport to Kyiv

Two soldiers from the Territorial Defense Forces will stand trial in Kyiv; according to the investigation, their actions and inaction led to the death of a conscripted soldier while he was being transported to the capital. The State Bureau of Investigations has released details of the incident and the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

The investigation established that in May 2025, during the transport of conscripts from western regions to Kyiv, a conflict arose between the soldiers and one of the men. The victim had health issues.

During the altercation, a soldier from the Shevchenkivskyi Territorial Recruitment Center used physical force and a stun gun against the man. The deputy head of the Podilskyi Territorial Recruitment Center, who was responsible for the transport, witnessed the violence but did not intervene to stop his subordinate.

Upon arrival in Kyiv, medical personnel pronounced the conscript dead right on the parade ground, where he had been carried out of the bus.

Charges and Trial

The pre-trial investigation has now been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court.

The soldier is charged with causing serious bodily harm and abuse of authority under martial law (Part 2 of Article 121, Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The deputy head of the TCC is charged with intentionally failing to stop a criminal offense committed by a subordinate, which resulted in serious consequences (Part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
