A court ordered a military unit to release a student who had been unlawfully conscripted

The Dnipropetrovsk District Administrative Court ruled that the conscription of a full-time student was unlawful and ordered the military unit to discharge the man from service and remove him from the personnel roster.

In August 2024, the man enrolled in a master’s program at Kryvyi Rih National University and, in September, mailed an application for a deferment to the Territorial Military Commissariat along with a certificate of enrollment. Despite receiving the documents, the Military Registration and Enlistment Office did not review the application but instead referred the student for a medical examination and subsequently mobilized him into the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The court emphasized that individuals subject to military service are not subject to conscription or referral for a medical examination until a decision on granting a deferment has been made. Since the TCC violated the conscription procedure, the mobilization order and the order to assign him to a military unit were deemed unlawful and revoked.

Earlier, an unemployed resident of Volyn received a six-month prison sentence for refusing to report for military service during mobilization.
