A judge from the Pavlohrad Court was sentenced to prison for accepting a $2,000 bribe
The High Anti-Corruption Court found Oleksandr Shcherbina, a judge of the Pavlohrad City and District Court in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, guilty of accepting $2,000 in illicit benefits. The judge received the money from a defendant whom he subsequently acquitted.
As the court established, during the criminal proceedings, Oleksandr Shcherbina asked the defendant for $2,000 in exchange for issuing an acquittal.
The judge received the bribe in two installments of $1,000 each—in October 2024 and July 2025.
After receiving the funds, Shcherbina handed down an acquittal in the case.
The High Anti-Corruption Court sentenced Oleksandr Shcherbina to five years in prison.
In addition, the court barred him for three years from holding positions related to the administration of justice and the performance of organizational and administrative functions as a public official.
The High Anti-Corruption Court also ordered the confiscation of all property belonging to Shcherbina.
Until the verdict becomes final, Oleksandr Shcherbina will remain on bail.
The court ordered him to wear an electronic monitoring device, not to leave Ukraine without permission from the prosecutor or the court, to surrender his foreign passports, and to report any change of residence or place of employment.
At the same time, the High Anti-Corruption Court’s verdict may be appealed within 30 days by filing an appeal with the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
