A commander whose subordinates worked at a car repair shop instead of performing their military duties will stand trial

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations have completed a pretrial investigation into the commander of a military unit in the Zhytomyr region, who sent four servicemembers to work at a private auto repair shop for nearly three years instead of performing their military duties. The scheme operated from January 2023 to January 2026, and the subordinates unjustifiably received nearly 3.5 million hryvnias in pay from the budget.

The investigation established that the commander acted on the instructions of his superior, who was on friendly terms with the owner of the auto repair shop. During the investigation, the official admitted his guilt, fully reimbursed the state for the losses, transferred 300,000 hryvnias to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and testified against the other individuals involved. Currently, an indictment against him has been filed with the court on charges of aiding and abetting evasion of military service and abuse of official position.

Suspicions have also been brought against the car service owner, four military personnel, and a senior commander. Additionally, during the investigation, the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) uncovered false information in the declaration of one of the unit’s senior officers, who has also been charged.

This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations.

In the Odesa region, more than 80 military personnel built a villa with a swimming pool for their commander.

In the Khmelnytskyi region, a former vice rector of a military academy, for whom subordinates built a summer house, will stand trial.
