In Chernivtsi, law enforcement officers detained the director of a vocational college who, according to the investigation, demanded $2,000 to enroll a person subject to military conscription at the school.
The 65-year-old official headed the admissions committee. He met with an acquaintance of a prospective student who wanted to enroll in the college to obtain a deferment from mobilization.
The director provided a list of required documents, explained how the man should behave during the exam, and arranged for the transfer of money. Law enforcement officers detained him right as he was receiving the bribe.
The official was charged under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court ordered him to be held in custody, with the option to post bail of 200,000 hryvnias.
If found guilty, the director faces up to 10 years in prison, a ban on holding certain positions for up to three years, and confiscation of property.
