Schemes involving the forgery of documents to evade military service have been uncovered in Kyiv
In the capital, law enforcement officials uncovered two schemes involving the production of fake documents, which were offered to men to obtain deferments from military service. Specifically, these involved forged Polish birth certificates for children. If a client had one child, the scheme involved using the fake documents to falsely register the birth of twins abroad.
According to the investigation, the cost of such services reached about $6,000. Separately, schemes involving the fabrication of fictitious disability were offered, with prices reaching up to $25,000.
Thus, as a father of three children, the man submitted documents to defer his conscription into military service. For producing the fake certificates and translating these documents, the suspects received between $6,000 and $10,000 from each “client.”
Under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, a 30-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were notified of the charges against them; the couple had been producing such forged documents for conscripts in exchange for money.
Also in the capital, a lawyer was detained who had convinced a client that disability status could be obtained for only $25,000.
It was established that a 55-year-old man, who has a number of medical conditions that could qualify him for a disability classification, sought the lawyer’s assistance. The lawyer claimed that it was impossible to obtain disability documents for free and that if the man applied to doctors on his own, he would certainly be denied. However, for $25,000 and two months’ time, the lawyer promised to resolve the issue.
Under the procedural guidance of the Obolon District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv, the lawyer has been notified of suspicion of abuse of influence.
