In several cities across Ukraine, people have once again taken to the streets to protest
Protests have continued for the sixth consecutive day in several Ukrainian cities following Mykhailo Fedorov’s resignation as defense minister. Protesters are demanding a review of the government’s personnel decisions, calling for Fedorov’s reinstatement, and expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of the military leadership.
On the evening of July 21, protests took place again in various cities across Ukraine, with participants opposing Mykhailo Fedorov’s resignation. People once again gathered in central squares to voice their demands and declare that they do not plan to stop the protests. Protests on this day took place, in particular, in Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipro, and Lviv.
Rally in Ivano-Frankivsk
In Ivano-Frankivsk, people gathered near the administrative building on Hrushevsky Street. During the rally, participants chanted: “Syrsky, get out,” “Bring back Fedorov,” and “The people are the government.” According to “Suspilne,” the protesters stated that they want to be heard by the authorities and expect a review of personnel decisions.
What was demanded in Dnipro
In Dnipro, the rally also began in the evening. Before the rally started, participants observed a moment of silence to honor the fallen, after which they sang the Ukrainian national anthem. The protesters unfurled a large Ukrainian flag and chanted: “Syrsky, step down,” “Soldiers aren’t disposable,” “The Rada must get to work tomorrow,” and “As long as the army stands, so do we.”
Among the participants’ main demands are the reinstatement of Mykhailo Fedorov as defense minister and the replacement of Oleksandr Syrskyi as commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Protest in Lviv
In Lviv, people gathered at 7:00 p.m. near the Taras Shevchenko monument on Svobody Avenue. Participants brought posters with various slogans. Among them were: “Why are there more ministerial rotations than in the military?”, “Out with Syrskyi!”, “The military doesn’t get vacations,” “Yes to Fedorov!”, and “The people are the government.”
The protesters emphasized that they want an open dialogue with the government regarding personnel decisions in the defense sector.
The protests have been ongoing for several days
Rallies in support of Mykhailo Fedorov have been taking place in various cities across Ukraine for the sixth consecutive day. On Tuesday, July 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. This was announced by the President’s communications adviser, Dmytro Lytvyn. He also told reporters that the president is still holding meetings.
Earlier, Dmytro Lytvyn, the President of Ukraine’s communications adviser, announced that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was holding a series of meetings, the results of which and the corresponding decisions would be made public immediately after the conclusion of the last and most important of them.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is reportedly considering replacing Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing a senior official in the Office of the President whose name has not been disclosed.
In Kyiv and across Ukraine’s regions, citizens have once again taken to the streets in peaceful protests over the decision not to renominate Mykhailo Fedorov for the position.
