The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office stated that Mykytas may have paid for Mudra's daughter's education in New York
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office believes that former People’s Deputy Maksym Mykytas allegedly had the means to pay for two years of his daughter’s education in New York—the daughter of Iryna Mudra, the former deputy head of the Office of the President. The statement was made during the hearing to determine bail in the amount of 200 million hryvnias.
This is stated in the prosecution’s appeal against the preventive measure imposed on Mykytas, the text of which was read aloud during the hearing by a judge of the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court
“The suspect has significant assets. Mykitas transferred a certain number of thousands of shekels—approximately 560,000 hryvnias—to Mudra’s mother, with a promise to transfer similar amounts every six months in the future. Mykitas had the means to financially cover two years of Mudra’s daughter’s education and living expenses in New York with a single payment of over 10 million hryvnias,” the judge stated while reading the prosecutor’s motion.
This document also states that a discussion between Mykyta and Dubovyk regarding the possibility of kidnapping a person was allegedly “recorded.” The motion does not specify which person.
The prosecution insists that the bail amount set by the investigating judge of the court of first instance is insufficient to prevent the risks proven by the prosecution and to ensure that the defendant fulfills the obligations imposed on him. The prosecutor believes that bail for Mykytas should be set at 200 million hryvnias, along with detention.
The defense argues that the bail amount previously set by the High Anti-Corruption Court is deliberately excessive for Mykytas, given his actual lack of such funds and the existence of legal obstacles to posting bail in that amount.
During his statement, the attorney noted that his client “did not say a single word about considering a scenario in which he would abscond from the pretrial investigation authorities and the court.”
“As for the $250,000 that Mykytas allegedly had the means to pay for his daughter Mudra’s education, the prosecutor does not state that he provided it; he merely expressed a willingness to provide it. But he did not provide it; that is, those funds were not received, and she is not studying at the institutions mentioned in the National Security and Defense Council’s report,” the lawyer said.
The hearing in the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court regarding appeals against the pretrial measure imposed on former People’s Deputy Maksym Mykytas was closed to the public at the lawyer’s request.
“This closed portion of the hearing concerns Mykytas’s state of health. Furthermore, attorney-client privilege in another criminal proceeding will be disclosed there—we are preserving that privilege with respect to the other defendants in that criminal proceeding,” said the former MP’s attorney, responding to the judge’s question about why he needed a closed portion of this hearing.
The lawyer confirmed that he plans to present this information as an argument during the hearing. “These two arguments will explain the absence of the risks outlined in the prosecutor’s appeal. Otherwise, I will not be able to refute these risks,” the lawyer noted.
Mykitas supported his defense team’s motion for a closed portion of the hearing. The court agreed to hold these matters in closed session, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
