Water utility operations were suspended in Zhytomyr due to a power outage
Emergency power outages were implemented in the Zhytomyr region on September 30. Due to the power outage in Zhytomyr, operations at some water utility facilities were temporarily suspended, and specialists began switching pumping equipment to backup power. Utility officials are asking residents to unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from potential power surges.
Emergency power outage schedules were implemented in the Zhytomyr region on September 30. This was reported by JSC “Zhytomyroblenergo.” The announcement regarding the implementation of the restrictions was made during the day. Utility officials urged residents of the region to take care of their electrical appliances and not to leave sensitive equipment plugged in during power outages. “For the safety and protection of your devices, unplug equipment sensitive to voltage surges from the outlets!” reads the statement from “ZhytomyrOblenergo.”
The outages have already affected the operation of the city’s infrastructure. In Zhytomyr, the operation of some water utility facilities has been temporarily suspended due to the power outage. Zhytomyrvodokanal reported that the company has begun switching equipment to backup power. Specifically, specialists are connecting generators at water and sewage pumping stations.
The goal is to restore pump operations as quickly as possible and stabilize water supply and wastewater disposal. The water supply issue arose precisely because of problems with the power supply. The local utility has previously used generators at pumping stations to keep the systems running during power outages.
City residents are asked to follow updates from the water utility and local authorities. Depending on the duration of the power outage, the water supply situation may change. According to local authorities, the emergency restrictions are related to security concerns and damage to energy infrastructure caused by Russian attacks. In such cases, the service disruptions are expected to continue until the power grid stabilizes.
The region’s technical services continue to work on restoring normal power supply. Meanwhile, the water utility is using backup power sources to minimize the impact of the power outage on the city. Currently, the main task is to restore a stable power supply and return the pumping equipment to normal operation. Once the situation stabilizes, the emergency restrictions are expected to be lifted. This was reported by JSC “ZhytomyrOblEnergo.”
