Ukraine May Surpass Russia in Grain Exports for the First Time

Ukraine and Russia have effectively reached parity in terms of grain export volumes in absolute terms. 

According to him, the situation has changed significantly amid Russian strikes on the Black and Azov Seas, as well as attacks on Ukraine’s port infrastructure.

Although Ukrainian grain exports suffered significant losses due to Russian strikes, Russian grain exports fell even more sharply—by 65%.

Stanimir Dobrev notes that if the current trend continues, Ukraine may, for the first time, gradually surpass Russia in terms of grain export volumes in absolute terms.

Previously, Russia’s lead was much greater—the volume of Russian grain exports exceeded that of Ukraine by approximately 2.3 times.

Thus, the decline in Russian exports, amid changes in logistics and the situation in the Black and Azov Seas, has led to a significant narrowing of the gap between the two countries.

This was stated by economic analyst Stanimir Dobrev.

As a reminder, on September 13 in New Delhi, Vladimir Putin, president of Russia—the aggressor state—proposed that BRICS countries create a joint grain market and a new insurance mechanism. He also called on the group to adopt a comprehensive approach to addressing global challenges.

Ukraine, Latvia, and the United Kingdom plan to announce next week the signing of a memorandum on verifying the origin of Russian grain that may be transiting through Baltic ports.
