Ukraine has brought the humanitarian crisis in Oleshky to the attention of the OSCE

Ukraine has called for an urgent discussion of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the temporarily occupied city of Oleshky at a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council. This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.

The Ukrainian delegation will brief the participating States on the situation created by the Russian occupation authorities, who are holding civilians—including children—hostage. The Foreign Minister emphasized that an artificial humanitarian catastrophe has been created in the city and called on the Swiss OSCE Chairmanship and other countries to condemn the aggressor and exert the strongest possible pressure on Russia to immediately provide assistance to civilians.

The Ukrainian side also assured that it would continue to expose Russia’s military propaganda and keep the international community informed about the actual events in occupied Oleshky.

As a reminder, Russian troops confiscated food that Ukrainian soldiers had dropped to local residents in occupied Oleshky. Furthermore, the mere possession of non-Russian food products could serve as grounds for detention on charges of alleged collaboration with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

About 2,000 people remain in Oleshky.

The Ukrainian military used drones to deliver about 4 metric tons of food to residents of occupied Oleshky. The humanitarian aid was distributed among 100 designated locations in the city.

Russian units involved in the blockade of the city have been deployed in occupied Oleshky.
