Ukrenergo proposes a 29% increase in the transmission tariff for 2026

Ukrenergo proposes a 29% increase in the transmission tariff for 2026

The national energy company Ukrenergo has proposed a significant revision of its service rates to ensure the financial stability of the power grid.

According to published calculations, the electricity transmission tariff is set to rise by 29%—to 958.87 UAH/MWh, while the current rate stands at 742.9 UAH/MWh.

Even more significant changes are expected for the dispatch tariff, which is proposed to increase by 55.5%. If the initiative is supported, the price will rise from 110.03 UAH to 171.12 UAH/MWh.

The company expects the new pricing parameters to take effect as early as July 1, 2026.

Energy officials explain the need for these steps by citing several critical factors, the main one being the rise in exchange rates.

Since payments under the “green” tariff are fixed in euros, the devaluation of the hryvnia creates an excessive financial burden on the state-owned company’s budget.

In addition to currency fluctuations, the situation has been affected by a decrease in electricity consumption and transmission volumes in the country.

The projected electricity output has decreased by 9.5%, which automatically reduces the amount of funds Ukrenergo receives to cover its operating expenses and repairs.

An important component of the new tariff is the fulfillment of special obligations to renewable energy producers (REPs).

The plan is to allocate 379.27 UAH/MWh for this expense item, which will allow for settlements with both industrial facilities and residential solar power stations.

Vitaliy Zaychenko, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, had previously warned of a critical shortage of financial resources.

He emphasized that without adjusting service costs, the company will be unable to properly prepare the power grid for the winter season and avoid accumulating debt.

For “green metallurgy” enterprises, the tariff will also change and may increase by 53%—to 579.6 UAH/MWh.

This step is part of an overall strategy to balance the energy market following the liberalization of price caps (price caps) that took place in May of this year.
