Ukrzaliznytsia presented American actor and director Sean Penn with a symbolic award—an "Oscar" made from the steel of a train car damaged in a Russian attack.

The company announced this on its Instagram page.

The post notes that this was a way to express gratitude to the actor for his support of Ukraine.

“Sean Penn didn’t go without an Oscar—he received one from Ukrzaliznytsia! Thank you for standing with us and choosing to be here with us,” the post reads.

The company emphasized that the award symbolizes not only achievements in cinema, but also resilience, humanity, and courage.

American actor Sean Penn did not attend the 98th Academy Awards ceremony, despite winning in one of the key categories.

As a reminder, Sean Penn’s film about the war in Ukraine will be broadcast for free in the U.S.

Sean Penn also starred in a Ukrainian film for a symbolic fee.
