The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a large-scale program of financial compensation for housing for veterans and the families of fallen defenders. The program involves over 5.6 billion hryvnias, which will be used to support those most in need of their own homes. In 2026, more than two thousand Ukrainian families will receive assistance for purchasing housing, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has launched one of the largest housing support programs for veterans and families of fallen defenders in recent years, and now the state is effectively taking on the financial burden of an issue that has remained out of reach for many families for years.
According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the government has approved compensation payments totaling 5.67 billion hryvnias under the Ministry of Veterans Affairs’ program. She emphasized that this is part of a broader support policy that includes not only housing but also other forms of assistance. In her statement, she noted: “The government continues to create new opportunities for veterans, female veterans, and their families—from housing support and compensation for vehicle modifications to the development of veteran-owned businesses and sports programs.”
This year, as Svyrydenko clarified, 2,150 Ukrainian families will receive financial assistance for purchasing housing. The list of those eligible for payments includes individuals with war-related disabilities of Groups I and II, as well as family members of fallen or deceased defenders of Ukraine.
The payment mechanism provides that funds will be transferred directly to special accounts, allowing people to independently choose housing in any region of the country without additional restrictions from the state.
The government also emphasizes that this program is part of a comprehensive support system for veterans, which is gradually expanding to include both financial assistance and social and economic opportunities for reintegration into civilian life.
The Cabinet of Ministers is preparing a package of measures to stabilize the financial situation in the energy market and halt the accumulation of debt.
