The Office of the President responded to a Bloomberg report about Zelenskyy's trip to Moscow
The Office of the President of Ukraine denied a Bloomberg report claiming that Donald Trump had allegedly suggested that Volodymyr Zelenskyy travel to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin. Dmytro Lytvyn, the president’s communications adviser, called the report false. Bloomberg had previously reported that such a proposal was made during a meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy in New York on September 22.
The Office of the President responded to the Bloomberg report regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s alleged proposal to arrange a meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Dmytro Lytvyn, the Ukrainian president’s communications adviser, denied this information. “This is false information,” Lytvyn told reporters, commenting on the Bloomberg report.
What Bloomberg Reported
On September 25, Bloomberg reported that during a meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York on September 22, the U.S. president allegedly proposed that the Ukrainian leader hold direct talks with Vladimir Putin in Moscow. According to the agency, Zelenskyy rejected this proposal. Bloomberg cited an unnamed source familiar with the situation.
The meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy did indeed take place on September 22 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The parties discussed, among other things, Russia’s war against Ukraine and possible further diplomatic steps. At the same time, the Ukrainian side denies the claim that Trump suggested Zelenskyy travel to Moscow.
What Is Known About the Talks Between Zelenskyy and Putin
The topic of a possible face-to-face meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin has recently become a hot topic of discussion again. The Russian side insists on Moscow as the venue for a possible meeting, while Ukraine advocates for a different format. On September 24, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the G20 summit in Miami could serve as one of the venues for potential talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. The Ukrainian president also said he was ready for a face-to-face meeting with Putin in an appropriate format.
The day before, on September 23, in New York, Zelenskyy also responded to a question from a Russian journalist about a possible visit to Moscow. When asked when he would arrive, the president replied, “On a rocket.” He made this remark in response to public calls from the Russian side for him to visit the Russian capital. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov subsequently stated that the Russian side allegedly did not interpret Zelenskyy’s words as a definitive refusal to visit Moscow. At the same time, the Ukrainian side has not expressed a willingness to hold talks in the Russian capital.
Thus, there are currently two versions of the story regarding Trump’s alleged proposal to Zelenskyy to travel to Moscow: Bloomberg reported on it, citing a source, while the Office of the President of Ukraine directly called the claim false.
U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that Volodymyr Zelenskyy travel to Moscow for a face-to-face meeting with Vladimir Putin. According to Bloomberg, the Ukrainian side rejected the proposal, and Zelenskyy publicly responded that he would travel to the Russian capital “on a rocket.”
