Ukraine plans to begin discharging some military personnel from service by the end of the year

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has announced the start of a phased discharge from service for certain categories of military personnel by the end of 2026.

According to the ministry, this decision is part of a large-scale military reform and primarily concerns soldiers who have been participating in combat operations since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion and have spent the longest time on the front lines.

“For them, we are beginning a gradual discharge from service by the end of the year,” the Ministry of Defense noted.

At this time, the specific mechanism, selection criteria, and number of service members affected by the decision have not been disclosed.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced preparations for changes aimed at improving service conditions and ensuring a fair approach to military personnel who have been performing combat missions for an extended period.
