A nationwide competition on the subject of "Defense of Ukraine" will be held in Ukraine
Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi announced the launch of a nationwide competition among study groups for the subject “Defense of Ukraine.”
According to him, the Ministry of Education and Science views this subject as a separate national movement, similar to academic competitions or tournaments, where community, motivation, and a competitive format play an important role.
The competition is planned to be held in a tiered format—from the community level to the national finals. Participation will be voluntary and will depend on the clubs’ own willingness.
As Lisovyi reported, the regulations for holding the competition are already undergoing approval at the Ministry of Education and Science. He also noted that the pilot project has already been successfully tested and is now planned to be scaled up.
According to the draft regulations, the competition will take place in three stages: local, regional, and national.
Preliminary training areas under consideration include tactical medicine, marksmanship, drone piloting, tactical group operations, obstacle course navigation, orienteering, and military board games. At the same time, the minister clarified that the final list of disciplines is still under discussion.
Currently, about 64% of high school students are participating in training at “Defense of Ukraine” centers. The Ministry of Education and Science plans to expand the program to all high school students by 2027. Starting this year, the updated course will become mandatory in all schools across Ukraine.
