Carrot prices have risen sharply in Ukraine

Carrot prices have risen sharply in Ukraine

The Ukrainian market for "borscht vegetables" has seen a significant increase in the price of carrots. Analysts report that prices have risen by approximately 20%, and high-quality produce is gradually becoming scarce.

As of today, producers are selling carrots for between 6 and 13 UAH per kilogram.

This is, on average, one-fifth more expensive than at the end of last week.

Experts identify several key reasons for the price increase:

  • Shortage of high-quality produce. Wholesale companies are increasingly facing difficulties in sourcing carrots of adequate quality, as a significant portion of the stock in storage no longer meets market requirements.
  • Consistently high demand. Despite the price increase, buyer interest in high-quality produce remains high.
  • Seasonal factor. Stocks on farms traditionally decrease ahead of the new season, which further pushes prices upward.

Experts note that further price dynamics will depend on the pace of imported product arrivals, as well as on the quality of remaining carrots in domestic storage facilities.

At the same time, despite the current increase, carrot prices in Ukraine remain, on average, 69% lower than during the same period last year.

As a reminder, the Ukrainian market for white cabbage is currently seeing a rapid decline in prices. Over the past week, this vegetable has become 22% cheaper on average, as farmers are actively selling off their existing stocks.
