Zelenskyy discussed security guarantees and an Easter ceasefire with Trump’s representatives

On Wednesday, April 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held strategically important talks with key representatives of the U.S. administration—Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Senator Lindsey Graham also joined the discussion. The main topic of the meeting was Ukraine’s initiative for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays, as well as the development of updated security guarantee mechanisms.

Zelenskyy announced this in an evening address.

Following the conversation, Zelenskyy instructed the Ukrainian team to promptly update the package of documents regarding partners’ security commitments. The President emphasized that amid rapid changes in global alliances, Ukraine needs a clear understanding of how its allies would respond in the event of renewed Russian aggression. The parties agreed to work toward ensuring that future guarantees are “workable” and create a real foundation for the country’s post-war reconstruction.

U.S. representatives expressed their readiness to jointly seek compromises to end the war. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the success of the dialogue with Russia depends on a consolidated position among partners and the quality of the prepared legal safeguards. In the near future, intensive work by Ukrainian and U.S. working groups is expected, the results of which should demonstrate real progress in ensuring a lasting peace. This meeting took place amid reports of a possible U.S. withdrawal from NATO and Washington’s active efforts to resolve the conflict in the Middle East.

As a reminder, the Kremlin has already rejected the idea of an Easter truce.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that some of Ukraine’s partners have asked to reduce strikes on Russia’s oil sector following the global energy crisis. He emphasized that Ukraine is not acting merely to strike, but in response to attacks.
