Zelenskyy has made personnel changes at the SBU
On March 25, 2026, the President of Ukraine carried out personnel changes in the leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine, appointing heads of two strategically important units.
According to Decree No. 269/2026, Serhiy Gunkovsky was appointed head of the SBU’s Counterintelligence Department, which is responsible for protecting state interests and combating espionage. Viktor Zayets was appointed head of the SBU’s Military Counterintelligence Department under Decree No. 270/2026.
These personnel changes took place amid the tightening of security measures and the restructuring of the security service’s units to more effectively counter Russian aggression. Earlier, the head of state also dismissed the head of the SBU office in Zhytomyr Oblast due to an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the construction of protective structures for aviation. The new appointments are intended to strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and intensify efforts to protect military facilities and identify enemy agents.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed diplomat Mykhailo Brodovych as Ukraine’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia. The position had been vacant since 2022.
