Zelenskyy admits peace talks postponed due to war in Iran
Peace negotiations between Ukraine, the United States and Russia have been postponed due to the escalation in the Middle East.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the next round of trilateral diplomatic meetings has been delayed for the time being. The main reason for the postponement is the war in Iran, which has changed the overall political context and does not allow the necessary signals for continuing the dialogue to be received. Despite this, daily communication between Kyiv and Washington continues, particularly through the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Rustem Umerov, and Ukraine remains ready to resume negotiations as soon as the security situation allows.
At the same time, the Ukrainian side continues active work in the humanitarian sphere. The head of state hinted that positive news is expected regarding another prisoner exchange with the Russians. Representatives of the intelligence services and the Office of the President are working on this process on a permanent basis. Zelenskyy thanked all the services involved for their efforts aimed at returning Ukrainian citizens home despite the complications in the international situation.
Earlier, Zelenskyy said that the next round of trilateral peace negotiations between Ukraine, the United States and Russia could take place within a few days in Europe. Possible locations include Switzerland, Turkey, Austria, or the Vatican.
Zelenskyy also held a conversation with the German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The main topics included the supply of air defence missiles, the situation on the front line, prospects for peace negotiations, and the chancellor’s visit to China.
