January 5: 172 combat engagements on the front – General Staff
From the beginning of Monday, January 5, 172 combat engagements were recorded on the front, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
This is stated in the General Staff’s report as of 10:00 p.m.
Enemy strikes
Today the enemy carried out three missile strikes and 24 air strikes, using 10 missiles and dropping 79 guided aerial bombs. In addition, the Russians employed 3,083 kamikaze drones and carried out 3,038 shellings of the positions of our troops and populated areas.
Fighting in the North
In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out two air strikes, dropped seven aerial bombs, and conducted 63 shellings, including two from multiple launch rocket systems.
Fighting in the Kharkiv region
In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna direction, our troops stopped four enemy attacks in the areas of Vovchansk, Prylipky, and toward Kutkivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, from the beginning of the day the enemy twice attempted to advance toward Kurylivka and Kupiansk, but was repelled.
Fighting in the East
In the Lyman direction, over the course of the day Russian invaders attacked Ukrainian positions nine times near Nadiia, Zarichne, and in the directions of the settlements of Drobysheve, Stavky, and Lyman.
In the Sloviansk direction, the Defence Forces repelled two enemy attacks near Zakytne.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the Russians attacked the positions of the Defence Forces 20 times. The occupiers concentrated their main offensive efforts in the areas of the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, and in the directions of Stepanivka, Ivanopillia, Kostiantynivka, Berestok, and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, invading units attempted 38 times to break through our defence in the areas of the settlements of Chervonyi Lyman, Sukhetske, Zatyshok, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Dachne, Filiia, and in the directions of the settlements of Hryshyne and Ivanivka. In some locations, combat engagements are still ongoing.
Today in this direction Ukrainian warriors neutralised 142 occupiers, of whom 98 were eliminated irreversibly.
Also destroyed were:
- 31 unmanned aerial vehicles,
- 3 motorcycles,
- two satellite communications terminals,
- six units of automotive equipment and two units of specialised equipment,
- one UAV control point,
- three shelters for personnel.
In addition, Ukrainian warriors struck two infantry fighting vehicles, one artillery system, one multiple launch rocket system, three units of automotive equipment and two units of specialised equipment, and 12 shelters for personnel.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy attacked 14 times in the areas of the settlements of Vyshneve, Zlahoda, Sichneve, Oleksandrohrad, Sosnivka, and in the direction of Ivanivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
We recall that Putin ordered the protection of infrastructure from Ukrainian drones by reserve forces.
The General Staff confirmed strikes on the Syzran oil refinery and other strategic facilities of the Russian Federation.
Also, long-range drones of the SBU Special Operations Centre “Alpha” successfully struck two key facilities of the Russian oil and gas sector.
In the Russian city of Saratov, a fire was recorded in the area of the local oil refinery.
