53 of 76 drones destroyed: Air defense repels evening Russian attack
On Wednesday evening, Russian forces launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense forces neutralized 53 out of 76 enemy drones, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
From 6:00 p.m. on January 15, Russia launched 76 attack UAVs, including Shahed (some jet-powered), Gerbera, Italmass, and other types, from Kursk, Oryol, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and temporarily occupied Donetsk. About 50 of them were Shahed drones.
The attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, drone systems, and mobile fire groups. As of 8:30 a.m. on January 16, 53 drones had been shot down or suppressed.
Nineteen strike drones hit targets at nine locations, and debris from downed drones fell at one location. The attack is ongoing, with several enemy UAVs still in Ukrainian airspace.
Earlier reports said that on the night of January 15, Russia launched 82 attack drones, while Ukrainian forces destroyed 59 enemy drone launch sites and eliminated more than 1,000 Russian troops in the past day.
