291 people evacuated after UAV strike on passenger train in Kharkiv region
In Kharkiv region, the passenger train Barvinkove – Lviv – Chop came under attack by Russian drones. As a result of the strike, a carriage and an electric locomotive caught fire, and two passengers were injured. All passengers were quickly evacuated, and the injured were hospitalised. The information was reported by Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territorial Development Oleksii Kuleba.
On the night of 27 January, Russian forces attacked a passenger train in the Barvinkove community of Kharkiv region with three Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles. The drones struck near the locomotive and one of the carriages, causing a fire. There were 291 passengers on board.
All passengers were evacuated, and the injured were handed over to medics. Two people — a man and a woman — sustained injuries of moderate severity. Reserve buses were arranged for those waiting at stations or unable to continue their journey. All emergency services were working at the scene, including medics, rescue workers and the Ukrainian Railways team. Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba described the attack as a direct act of Russian terror against civilians, stating: “A strike on a passenger train is a direct act of Russian terror against civilians. There was no military target.”
Passengers are receiving all necessary assistance, while law enforcement agencies and emergency services continue to coordinate their efforts at the scene.
