Russian drone strikes passenger train in Kharkiv region

Russian forces attacked a passenger train in Kharkiv region using drones. As a result of the strike, a carriage and an electric locomotive caught fire, and passengers were injured. Emergency responders, medics and other services immediately began working at the scene. The attack was reported by the Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov.

On Monday, 27 January, Russian forces carried out a drone strike on a passenger train in the Barvinkove community of Kharkiv region. Following the drone impact, one of the carriages and the electric locomotive caught fire. All emergency services — rescue workers, medics and law enforcement — promptly arrived at the scene.

“As a result of the Russian UAV attack, a carriage and the electric locomotive caught fire. All emergency services are already working at the site. We are also deploying buses to transport passengers,” Syniehubov said. According to Viktor Zabashta, Director of the Emergency Medical Care Centre, two people — a man and a woman — were injured in the strike. He said doctors assess the condition of both victims as moderate. They were provided with the necessary medical assistance and taken to a medical facility.

The attack was deliberately directed at a civilian object — a passenger train carrying peaceful civilians. Information regarding the number of passengers on board at the time of the strike and the extent of damage to the rolling stock is being clarified.

Ukrainian services continue to work at the scene, eliminating the consequences of the attack and ensuring the safety of civilians. Law enforcement agencies are documenting yet another war crime committed by Russian forces against the civilian population.
