Drones attacked several cities in Russia; sirens sounded in Kazan for the first time

On the night of April 10, explosions were heard and air defense systems were activated in several Russian cities, including Kazan, Volgograd, and Saransk. The situation in Kazan was particularly notable, as an air raid alert was issued there for the first time since the start of the full-scale war.

Local residents reported loud sirens and air defense activity, but there is still little official information about the drone targets or the exact consequences of the attack.

This is being reported by Russian propaganda media.

First Air Raid Alert in Kazan

Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for the Study of the Occupation, noted that this was the first time an air raid siren had been sounded in Kazan (the capital of Tatarstan) since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The distance from the Ukrainian border to Kazan is approximately 1,200–1,500 kilometers.

The first siren sounded at 10:00 p.m. on April 9—local residents described it as “very loud.” At 2:00 a.m. on April 10, a “missile threat” was declared again. Residents heard air defense systems in operation, but no details have been reported.

Explosions in Saransk, Gukovo, and Volgograd

In Saransk (Mordovia), a fire broke out after the air raid alert, likely as a result of a missile attack. In Gukovo (Rostov Oblast), a powerful explosion was heard, followed by a fire—it is unknown what exactly caught fire.

In Volgograd, local residents heard the hum of drones flying at low altitude and at least 5–7 explosions in the southern part of the city.

As a reminder, Ukraine is developing all-weatherinterceptor drones equipped with artificial intelligence.

In February, in Kyiv and its outskirts, over 70% of Russian Shahed-type strike drones were destroyed by interceptor drones.

As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suggested that Ukraine may face difficulties in obtaining missiles for air defense systems due to military operations in the Middle East.
