SBU drones strike Russian oil platforms in the Caspian Sea for the third time in a week

Long-range drones operated by the Alpha Special Operations Center of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) struck oil production platforms operated by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft in the Caspian Sea for the third time over the past week.

This was reported to Ukrinform by a source within the SBU.

This time, the strike targeted a platform at the Korchagin oil and gas condensate field. As a result of the SBU drone attack, critical equipment at the facility was damaged, forcing production processes to halt.

“The SBU continues active operations that reduce the flow of oil revenues into Russia’s budget and, consequently, its ability to finance the war against Ukraine. No Russian facility that supports the war effort is safe, regardless of its location,” the informed SBU source said.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, on December 11 and 12 SBU drones had already struck oil production platforms at the Filanovsky and Korchagin fields. The Filanovsky field is one of the largest discovered in Russia and in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea, with reserves estimated at 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of gas.

On the night of December 14, units of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) carried out a series of precision strikes on military targets in temporarily occupied territories, using FP-2 strike drones.
