Economic crisis in Russia: over half a million citizens declared bankrupt

The economic situation in Russia continues to worsen, as evidenced by a sharp increase in the number of personal bankruptcies.

According to the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, in 2025 the number of court-declared bankruptcies of individuals increased by more than 31%, reaching almost 568,000 cases.

This indicates a systemic crisis with no signs of a quick resolution.

Sverdlovsk region entered the top five Russian regions with the highest number of personal and individual entrepreneur bankruptcy procedures. Over the year, the number of notifications of judicial property sales in the region rose by almost 28%. By absolute figures, the region surpassed Saint Petersburg, where over 20,000 bankruptcies were recorded.

The anti-ranking also includes Moscow, Moscow region, and Krasnodar Krai — regions with a high concentration of household debt.

Experts attribute this trend to falling real incomes, rising cost of living, and high household indebtedness. The formal “economic stability” declared by the Russian authorities does not correspond to the real financial situation of citizens.

It is worth noting that intelligence predicts a deep budgetary crisis in Russian regions in 2026. The population of Russia is also decreasing due to war and emigration.
