European embassies have stated that they will not leave Kyiv despite Russian threats
Diplomatic missions from European countries have stated that they do not plan to leave Kyiv, despite Russia’s warnings about the alleged danger of staying in the Ukrainian capital and threats to continue massive strikes.
This was announced by the embassies of Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, France, Sweden, and Albania, which are operating in Kyiv.
On Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Russian troops would continue to carry out “massive retaliatory strikes” on Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine. The ministry urged foreign citizens, particularly diplomats, to leave Ukraine.
“Together with other heads of diplomatic missions in Kyiv, we note with concern the threats made by the Russian Foreign Ministry against diplomats and foreign citizens in Ukraine. Russia is obligated to comply with the Vienna Convention and international humanitarian law. We are staying in Kyiv,” the embassies stated in their joint statements.
The diplomats included a photograph of one of the bridges in the Ukrainian capital, which, according to them, Russian troops have been deliberately targeting in recent days.
Katarina Maternova, the European Union’s ambassador to Ukraine, also endorsed the statement.
“The EU delegation is staying. Threats will not stop Europe’s support for Ukraine. They only remind us why this support is important!” she stated.
As a reminder, Poland is not altering the operations of its embassy in Kyiv despite threats from Russia.
Diplomats from European Union countries continue to work in Kyiv, despite Russia’s calls for them to leave the Ukrainian capital.
