Counterstrike in the south: Ukrainian forces halt Russian advance and reduce the “grey zone”

Ukrainian Defence Forces (UDF) have, through successful counterattacks and assault operations, halted Russian advances in the south and reduced the so-called “grey zone.”

This was stated by the spokesperson of the Southern Defence Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, during a telethon broadcast.

"We conducted several counterattacks and assault operations along certain sections of the front line. We reduced, first and foremost, the so-called 'grey zone.' We prevented the enemy from storming positions and exploiting success in several directions. Additionally, we stopped them from deploying reinforcement groups," he emphasised.

Voloshyn added that, according to Ukrainian intelligence, several Russian units have lost combat capabilities and the ability to conduct offensive operations. They are also unable to properly prepare reinforcement groups to hold territory.

"We have achieved certain successes. We have blocked the enemy’s advance and are operating in active defence," the Southern Defence Forces spokesperson said.

Voloshyn reported that around a dozen and a half settlements are suffering from Russian strikes with guided aerial bombs (KABs), including the village of Verkhnia Tersa, the city of Orikhiv, and the settlement of Pokrovske.

"Almost along the entire front line, 3–4 KABs hit daily. The Russians are not carrying out a massive strike on a single point or settlement at present. Around 3–5 such KABs land in nearly all settlements along the line of contact," he said.

The spokesperson also noted that Russia is increasingly targeting the city of Zaporizhzhia with KABs. He added that these are sophisticated bombs equipped with advanced flight and guidance systems, whereas standard KABs cannot reach the city.

It should be recalled that the UDF launched a counterattack along one sector of the front — Voloshyn.

Previously, Ukrainian forces struck a communications hub and an enemy drone control point.

Meanwhile, Russian forces in Ukraine have threatened the Kremlin in response to Telegram restrictions.
