The border with Russia has effectively become a front line; the enemy continues its assaults — Demchenko
Ukraine’s border with the Russian Federation has effectively become a full-fledged front line, where active combat operations continue unabated.
This was stated on television by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as he described the complex security situation in the region.
According to the SBGS spokesperson, the enemy regularly employs the full range of available weaponry, including aircraft, artillery, and attack drones.
The most tense situation persists in the areas of responsibility of border units, where Russian troops are attempting to break through the defenses.
“The enemy is attempting to attack positions held by our soldiers with its assault groups. For example, yesterday, assault operations were repelled within the Yunakivska community in the direction of the village of Varachyne,” Andriy Demchenko reported.
He emphasized that the occupiers are suffering heavy losses but have not ceased their assault attempts.
Currently, the enemy is focusing its main efforts on expanding its zone of control within the Krasnopil and Myropil communities, as well as in the Shostka district.
Despite constant pressure, Ukrainian defenders are holding their positions firmly and preventing the enemy from advancing deeper into the territory.
Separately, Demchenko refuted Russian propaganda claims about the creation of a so-called “buffer zone.”
The spokesperson emphasized that any attempts by the enemy to gain a foothold on Ukrainian soil are being firmly repelled by the Defense Forces, and the aggressor’s advance has been halted directly at the border zone.
“The enemy is unable to advance from the border or even in those combat zones, particularly within the Yunakivska and Khotynska communities, to expand its zone of control or penetrate deeper into Ukrainian territory,” the ministry spokesperson stated.

Russia has launched a covert forced mobilization due to a shortage of recruits
From January 1 to March 26, 2026, Russian troops lost 89,000 personnel on the front lines, including those killed and seriously wounded.
During a counteroffensive in the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian troops liberated 9 settlements and completely cleared 3 more of Russian occupiers.
