The Kremlin has removed local collaborators from the voter rolls in the occupied territories
Russia has drawn up the “United Russia” party lists for the sham elections to the State Duma in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including officials sent from Moscow on those lists and effectively depriving local collaborators of representation.
The electoral lists are headed by Russian officials, including State Duma Deputy Viktor Vodolatsky, former Ombudswoman Tatyana Moskalkova, Deputy Vyacheslav Nikonov, and Admiral Vladimir Kasatonov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Navy.
Unlike in regions of the Russian Federation itself, where the lists are traditionally headed by local leaders, a different approach was taken in the occupied Ukrainian territories. Russian propaganda attempts to portray the presence of Moscow figures as “successful integration” and “special attention from Moscow,” but the real reason is a total lack of trust in local collaborators, the introduction of direct control, and the strengthening of direct oversight by the Kremlin.
