The Kremlin rejects “energy ceasefire”

The Kremlin rejects “energy ceasefire”

Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov cynically stated that Russia is “working on peace, not a ceasefire,” rejecting the “energy ceasefire” initiative proposed by President Zelensky.

The Kremlin claims that its “absolute priority” is supposedly a “stable, guaranteed peace” through document signing, while continuing the war against Ukraine.

This rhetoric signals that Moscow is not interested even in a temporary pause to protect civilian energy infrastructure.

Volodymyr Zelensky publicly stated that Ukraine is ready for an “energy ceasefire” if Russia stops attacks on energy infrastructure and supports the initiative.

This involves halting attacks on power plants, substations, and other critical facilities on which millions of civilians depend.

Kyiv emphasizes that such a step is not a political concession but a humanitarian gesture for the people suffering from deliberate attacks on the energy system.

According to U.S. media, the so-called U.S. peace plan for Ukraine includes several key points, such as the possibility of Ukraine joining the EU as early as 2027 and maintaining the right to have an army of about 800,000 troops.

The plan also provides for the withdrawal of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant from Russian occupation and the possibility that the plant could temporarily be managed by the U.S. or an international body.

Another element is the creation of a demilitarized zone along the ceasefire line to reduce the risk of renewed large-scale hostilities.

As a reminder, the Kremlin denies that Putin has rejected the U.S. peace plan for Ukraine.
